Eylon Levy's Spokesletter: Independence means resisting pressure to cooperate with a Hamas front organization
Israel is under pressure to cooperate with a UN agency whose staff massacred its people on October 7
Dear Global Spokescommunity,
On Yom Ha’atzmaut, we celebrate being a free people in our land—as our national anthem declares. Not everyone likes that.
The Palestinians could have been celebrating their own independence too, had they not repeatedly prioritized wars of annihilation over statehood. This could have been their 77th Independence Day—had they accepted the 1947 UN Partition Plan instead of joining the Arab world to try to wipe out the Yishuv just three years after the Holocaust. In another universe, they might be marking 88 years of statehood—had they accepted the 1937 Peel Commission proposal, on terms far more generous than any since. But they gambled on total war against the Zionist movement. It hasn’t gone well for them.
One of their main weapons in the ongoing campaign to destroy Israel “from the river to the sea” is UNRWA—their custom-built refugee agency that grants fake, hereditary refugee status to Palestinians until they “return” to Israel. UNRWA tells Palestinians in Gaza that it’s not their real home, and that they’re not responsible for building their own prosperous future. It tells them that they’re entitled to free healthcare from European taxpayers—until they can move to Tel Aviv.
It’s insane.
UNRWA is a Hamas front. It launders information and funds for the terror group. It handles social services so Hamas can focus on building rockets. Its staff serve in Hamas’ military wing—and some took part in the October 7 massacre. Israel has given the UN names. That’s why Israel passed a law banning cooperation with it.
But many countries don’t like that. They believe Israel should be forced to work with the same agency whose employees raped, tortured, and murdered Israelis on October 7. They’re taking Israel to the kangaroo court known as the ICJ to force it to cooperate with the people who massacred its citizens and have been covering it up since.
Israel is finally biting back. It’s calling UNRWA what it is: a Hamas proxy, and demanding that the UN Secretary-General be held personally accountable for covering up its crimes.
Because we are a free people in our land.
And we don’t owe our cooperation to an agency whose staff massacred our neighbors.
That unwillingness to be bullied is one of the things I love most about Israel.
So we asked our spokespeople: What do you love most about Israel?
Here’s what they said:
Am Yisrael Chai,
Eylon Levy
Head, Israeli Citizen Spokespersons’ Office
This week I went on Live Now Fox for a far-ranging interview:
🔒 Iran Must Be Stopped
Iran is on the brink of nuclear weapons capability — with enough enriched uranium for six bombs. Israel demands a real deal that eliminates enrichment entirely, not another flawed agreement that paves the way for disaster.
🕊️ No Ceasefire Without Defeat
A truce that leaves Hamas in power just guarantees the next massacre. Israel seeks the end of Hamas’s war machine — not a pause button. Peace comes only through victory, not through appeasement.
🎗️ Bring the Hostages Home — Pressure Qatar
Dozens of hostages are still being tortured in Gaza. Qatar, Hamas’s main sponsor, protects its leaders and fuels global radicalism. The world must hold Qatar accountable — or be complicit in Hamas’s terror.
Israel isn’t even on the pitch in the narrative war being waged against it. We are outgunned, outmanned—and barely even fighting back.
But the truth is even more dramatic.
The entire West is off the pitch in the narrative war for the twenty-first century. Authoritarian regimes are weaponizing emerging technologies to poison hearts and minds—and the free world is simply unprepared.
We are on the brink of a disinformation apocalypse. Tools that were once the stuff of science fiction are now in everyone’s hands—for good or for ill.
That’s the warning from the latest episode of State of a Nation with David Keyes, former international spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. We dive into:
